Whether you living in a single-family home or an apartment, most homeowners are always trying to find ways to create additional storage space for the things they use regularly and for those items that serve a seasonal purpose. If you don’t have an area where you can add a storage shed in your yard, what options do you have? Luckily, there are a number of ways we can add storage to our homes in stylish ways that don’t look out of place or inappropriate for the home.
Benches
If you’re interested in finding ways you can create usable storage, consider a storage bench. These benches provide homeowners with additional seating in a room, while providing ample shelving for books, magazines, remotes, and other knickknacks. These storage benches come in a wide variety of colors and finishes, and in a vast array of styles. From modern leather benches to cottage style wood, storage benches are a wonderful addition, and work wonderfully in a sun room or any room you spend time in reading your favorite novels.
Ottomans
Do you ever sit down on the couch after a long day at work and wish you could just plop your feet up and relax? If you have a family, it might be difficult to “claim the couch” and sprawl out across it. But another wonderful option for your home is the storage ottoman. These ottomans often include a removable top – some of which double as a hardwood surface for beverages – which allows you to use the depth of the ottoman for additional storage. Great for blankets and anything that helps you cozy into your living room at the end of a long day, ottomans are making a comeback in the household. Not only do they provide the ultimate in leisure, their storage capabilities are incredible. You wouldn’t want to keep a cardboard box in plain sight, but the storage ottoman performs the same duties as a cardboard box, while adding a nice touch to your space.
Cabinets
No, this isn’t about adding cabinetry to your kitchen, though the concept is similar. If you have a decent amount of space to work with, free-standing cabinets are a great way to add a centerpiece to your living or family room while providing more storage space. Cabinets are also great for the bathroom, providing you with more space to store towels, soaps and other toiletries for you and your guests. If you have a corner in a room that simply looks bare, a corner cupboard is a great way to put special items on display while taking up the space a rocking chair could also take up. Whether you have fine china, or like to showcase your family photos throughout the home, additional cabinets are a great storage solution.
Entertainment Stands
You’re probably familiar with older entertainment centers where you could place your square tube television in a pre-cut slot that provides armoire-like storage around the television. Luckily, as technology has changed over the years, so have our options when it comes to entertainment stands. While there are still plenty of the old style centers available for tube televisions, there are more and more stands being made with storage as the name of the game. If you have a flat screen TV, you may want to mount it to a wall, but that doesn’t help with your storage situation. If you love your wall-mounted TV, consider an entertainment stand that provides ample storage space while also leaving you an area to mount your TV and center the stand around it. Great for storing your electronic devices, as well as decorative pieces, an entertainment center can easily become the focal point of your room.
